Sleep Innovations' 12" Memory Foam Mattress Review

memory foam mattress
Between the price and quality, we have the freedom to choose.

Could this be one of the those rare deals that go easy both on your wallet and on your back?

Majority of people call it a bed made in heaven, and few compare it with door, floor and even oven.

Let's dig deep and separate the facts from rumors.

Physical appearance:

Having a poly cotton cover and an eye catching design Sleep Innovations' 12" Sure Temp Memory foam mattress looks stylish and elegant.

It's available in four standard sizes Twin, King, Full, Queen, and California King, Ranging from 350$ to 580$, and normally each of them weighs less than 100 lbs making them hard to move by a single person. It isn't impossible to shift them with a single person, but if you have back problems or any other fitness issue you're better off calling someone to help you out.

Apparently, at the time of writing, Amazon is offering 75% sale

Features:

Special 2 layer design:

A base layer of 9.5" of support foam, and a 2.5" Sure Temp memory foam layer on top.
And since the mattress can never be flipped because the other side isn't made for sleeping if it ever starts to sag a bit, It can only be rotated 180 degrees.

Sure Temp memory foam:

According to Sleep Innovation, the sure temp memory foam (top layer of the mattress) is manufactured with open cell technology, which improves the airflow and helps to deal with heating issue that is so common in memory foam mattresses.

Pros:

Bargain price

If you want to enjoy the comfort of memory foam, and don't want to spend a fortune, then buying this one is a good idea, although it won't be as good as a $4,000 TempurPedic, but it still provides a relaxing and comfortable sleep at a reasonable price. The price starts from $350.

Consumer satisfaction:

No matter how innovative a product is, nothing  can beat the satisfaction of buyers  and here Sleep Innovation leaves other brands behind.

With a rating of 4.5/5 and 1792 reviews at amazon sleep innovation knows how to please its consumers, which seems to be working out quite well.
The majority of reviews is positive, 86% buyer gave them 4 stars or above.

Motion Isolation:

If you are a sort of sleeper who wakes up when his spouse turns over or when the cat jumps on the bed, then you're going to love this advantage of memory foams.

It'll be like your own private bubble, there will be no motion transfer. If you set a glass of water on one side of the mattress and jump up and down on the other side then chances are the glass won't tip over.

Full body support:

Sure Temp memory foam helps to straighten up your spine so you can wake  up without any pain You'll be up early because of good sleep and because of relief from pressure points.
Say bye to sore backs and sore shoulders
Take a look at the following graphic.

Molds itself  to your body shape:

When you lay on mattress it slowly melts and molds itself to your body shape, while there are some memory foam mattresses that sink down few inches making it hard for you to move around or get out of the bed. Sleep Innovations' memory foam sinks in enough to provide comfort, and at the same time makes moving around or rolling over a breeze. Keep in mind that if you're a large person you may sink in more, and might require a little more effort to get out of the bed.

Plus, This mattress will make your sexual life even better, your knees will sink in nicely but at the same time it'll be firm enough to hold you up and get you going.

Another thing is you feel good while sitting on the edge of bed, you don't feel like you're going to slide off.  You can put your socks on or watch TV while sitting on the edge.

Some Other Benefits:

  • Resistant to dust mite and allergens.
  • Made in USA with environmental friendly technology.
  • Ships in a box and is easy to set up.
  • Amazon's return policy.

Cons:

Some folks complained that it's way too firm:

If you're reading this post then chances are you've already read some reviews on Amazon. If not I'd recommend head over to Amazon and take some time to read the 1-star reviews you'll find out most of the reviewers complain bed is way too firm, some people even compare it to sleeping on the door or sleeping on the floor. They're entitled to their opinion, and so I'm.

This mattress is little firm, I admit that. It's no where near sleeping on a cloud and it doesn't sink in as much as other mattresses do. But definitely it's not like sleeping on the floor. As I told you before, it's good firm, who wants to sink into the mattress while watching TV? But then againn, if you are expecting to sleep on a cloud, look for other options.

Only fraction of reviewers complained about firmness. During my research I came across possible reasons:
  1. The harder you land on it the firmer it feels.
  2. It takes mattress 48 hours to expand/adjust to room temperature, don't even take a nap on it before that, otherwise it may not unfold properly and you'd end up with a firmer bed.
  3. If your room temperature is less than 60 it'll feel firmer. And I don't need to explain that do I?
Still If you're not satisfied go and test one for yourself, go to your nearby store or to friend's house(if he has one) and spend a couple of hours on the this mattress, try different sleep positions. And please do not just sit over the edges, stretch yourself out completely on the bed. Then decide yourself.

Some reviewers complained about heat:

I didn't read this complain quite often. As my mattress never had any issues with heat, I'll  say that only a fraction of customers encounter this problem. But still, you've to decide what you'd do if by any chance you end up in that minority. Sleep Innovations has tried hard to eliminate the heat issues that's why they've made this mattress with open cell technology, it heats way less than other mattresses in the market.

If you're large or have blood pressure issues, then chances are your mattress will radiate more heat.

Heat is serious problem, heat means sweat and if any moisture reached the mattress it'll not only deteriorate the polymer but also void your warranty. If you feel sweaty, buy a waterproof cover and put it over the mattress. Make sure the cover allows the heat transfer between your body and mattress, otherwise your mattress will fail to mold, and will feel like a dead rock.

If your mattress starts over heating, try putting a 2 inch cooling gel foam on top, and lower the thermostat of your A.C.

Gives off an unpleasant smell for some time:

Your room will smell like paint, and it's normal. All the memory foam mattresses smell this way, it'll go away within a week. It's not a big deal. If your room is breezy and uncluttered the smell will go away faster.  If you've a sensitive nose, I'd recommend to stay away from the room for a week.

My Recommendations:

  •  If you plan to purchase mattress protector, make sure that it allows the heat transfer between the body and the bed. If there is no heat transfer, the mattress will feel firmer and it might fail to mold to your body shape, resulting in bad sleep, back aches and awful experience.
  • Try to turn the mattress weekly around 180 degrees. It'll help to balance the both sides.
  • And if you ever end up with anything remotely related to this. Never hesitate to contact amazon, within 30 days if possible.
